Obituary for Nancy Miller Simmons (Miller)

Nancy Miller Simmons (Miller)
Nancy Miller Simmons, 70, of Winchester, Virginia went to be with her lord on January 21, 2017. She passed peacefully at home supported by her husband of 50 years, Bill, and three sons. She was born and raised in Keyser, West Virginia, to the late C. Carson & Lenore Miller.
Throughout her energetic life, Nancy had a variety of interests and professions. She worked as a secretary at West Virginia University and Rubbermaid before helping teach children at Quarles Elementary School as an Aid. But her true passion was transforming spaces from old and bland to new and vibrant. So in 2001, after seeing her third child graduate from High School, she earned her own Associate Degree in Interior Design from Lord Fairfax Community College. She then, with friend and partner Sue Spangler, opened up Water Street Interiors, Inc.
Nancy had a remarkable eye for blending colors and fabrics and did it right up to the end as she brought to life a new space for her and Bill.
Nancy was also a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, Winchester.
But as much as design drove her, there was nothing that gave Nancy more enjoyment later in life than her ten grandchildren. She was constantly on the move keeping up and engaging in all of their lives and looked forward to hosting “Camp Nanawaddy” every summer.
Nancy is survived by her husband, William French Simmons III; sons and daughter-in-laws: William Todd and Sandra of Pittsburgh, PA; Christopher Jon and Erin of Woodbridge, VA, and Nicholas Scott and Julie of Gainesville, VA; Ten grandchildren: Matthew, Carson, Anna, Emma, Connor, Brenton, Quinn, Jay, Ryan and Brody. In addition to sisters Sally Sanders and Deni Parish of Keyser, WV; brothers Charles Miller of Webster Springs, WV and Kerry Miller of Keyser, WV; and half-sister Catherine Rotruck, of New Creek, WV.
She was preceded in death by half-sister Mary Lou Metcalf.
The family will receive friends and family of Nancy on Wednesday, January 25th from 6-8 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 26th at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Winchester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to: Valley Health Cancer Center Foundation at www.vhsbuildinghope.org. Or First Baptist Church (Nancy’s Kitchen Fund) at www.fbcwinc.org. As her last design wish was to remodel the church’s kitchen.
