Mercedes "Merce"  Barrett (Miller)
Mercedes “Merce” Miller Barrett, 78, of Berryville, VA formerly of Winchester, VA passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018.
She was born in Winchester on February 27, 1939; the daughter of Daniel L. Miller, Jr. and Ruth Boyd Miller. Together she and her mother and sister worked at the “historic” Triangle Diner in the late 50’s and early 60’s. She was a member of the Montague Avenue United Methodist Church.
Merce met and married the love of her life, Elwood “Mike” Barrett, in 1973. They were married for 25 years until his death in 1998. Together they enjoyed beach trips, playing golf, antiquing, flea markets and Food!
Surviving her is her son, Dwayne Scott Haines of Stephenson, VA; three sisters, Eleanora Miller Layman of Winchester, Carol Miller Cave (Bill) of Winchester and Gail Miller Johnson (Grant) of High View, WV; a brother, Daniel L. Miller (Jo) of Boyce, VA; eight grandchildren, Hannah, Seneca, Stephanie, Jordan, Bradley, Spencer, Mallory and McKenna; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack D. Haines; a sister, June B. Watkins; and a brother, Meredith Boyd.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Michel Q. Mayton and Rev. Anthony “Pete” Wadsworth officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend much gratitude to Rose Hill Nursing Home for their excellent care of Merce.
