Obituary for Amaryllis Dorsey "Ann" Slonaker (Dorsey)

Amaryllis “Ann” Dorsey Slonaker, 88, of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at Fox Trail Assisted Living.

Mrs. Slonaker was born March 30, 1930, in Clear Brook, VA; the daughter of the late Lawrence Dorsey and Zetta Smith Dorsey. She was a graduate of Handley High School. Ann worked as a secretary at Stonewall Elementary School for eighteen years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She married Willard Slonaker, May 8, 1953 in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death February 24, 2017.

She is survived by her son, John Scott Slonaker of Arlington, VA; three daughters, Robin Painter (Paul) of Stephens City, Gena Zydelis (Billy) of Middletown and Sherri Simpson (Rick) of Winchester; brothers, Chauncey Dorsey of Winchester, Louis Dorsey of Virginia Beach, VA, Phineas Dorsey of Inwood, WV and Benjamin Dorsey of Syracus, NY; sisters, Rosabelle Phillips of Stephens City and Sue Merriner of Frederick County, VA; five grandchildren, Jaime Settle of Vancouver, WA, Melissa Sims (Chris) of Stephens City, Bradley Settle (Lauren) of Winchester, Dylan Zydelis of Middletown and Mary Zydelis of Strasburg, VA; and three great grandchildren, Ty Sims, Abigail Settle and Adeline Settle.

She is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Megan Zydelis and Michael Painter.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester with Rev. Dr. Kristin Whiteside officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
