James W. “Sonny” Spitler, 82, of Winchester, died Sunday, March 3, 2019.
Mr. Spitler was born July 11, 1936 in Frederick County, VA; the son of the late Melvin and Pauline Beydler Spitler. He was a 1955 graduate of James Wood High School. He retired as a ticket agent with CSX Railroad. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Brethren where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, past Church Treasurer and Financial Secretary.
He married Sue Albin on November 6, 1961 in Winchester.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Spitler Hogan and her partner, William Hoover, Jr. of Winchester and Patty Black of Roanoke; a sister, Marie Randolph of Stephens City; two grandchildren, Ashley Bowen and Sean Hogan; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Ratlief.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Church of the Brethren. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Martino officiating. Burial will be private.
