Obituary for Gary Preston Henshaw
Gary Henshaw, 75, of Winchester, Virginia, departed this life peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019.
Gary was born in Winchester, Virginia in 1943, the second child of the late Samuel Preston Henshaw and Margaret Catherine Omps Henshaw. Gary graduated from James Wood High School in 1961. He also attended Potomac State Junior College and Virginia Tech.
Gary worked at many jobs throughout his life. For 21 years, Gary worked as an insurance agent for Home Beneficial Life. After that, he worked for another 16 years at Advance Auto Parts.
Gary was an active member of Calvary Church of the Brethren, serving as Church Moderator and Board Chair on at least three different occasions. He taught Sunday School for 20 years and was an example to all of the love of Christ.
Gary’s greatest legacy is his devotion to his family. He married his wife, Jean (Turner) on December 13, 1964. For 54 years, their marriage served as a living lesson of what love looks like. His sons, Michael (Mimi) and Brian (Kelly), his grandchildren Jacob, Luke, Hannah, Dane, and Sam are witnesses to that legacy. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald and is survived by his brother, Edward.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church of the Brethren with Pastor Chuck Davis, Pastor Jonathan Martino, and Pastor Aaron Fitch officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church of the Brethren Helping Hand Fund, 578 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602 or to Millwood Station Fire and Rescue, 250 Costello Drive, Winchester, VA 22602.
