Obituary for Lucille Patricia Dowell (Barnes)

Lucille Patricia Dowell, 78, of Stephens City, VA passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at home surrounded by her family.

Lucille was born January 2, 1941 in Washington, D.C.; the daughter of the late Charles Manier Barnes and Betty (Bessie) Blanche McConnell Barnes.

She married Robert Eugene Dowell, August 23, 1969 in Fairfax, VA.

Lucille bought the Center for Figures on Berryville Ave., Winchester, VA in 1985; changing the name in 1987 to The Centre for Fitness. In 2000 Lucille opened Pilates Studio in Stonebrook, which later moved to Prosperity Ave in Winchester. In 2015 she went into partnership with her daughter-in-law Michelle Dowell and in 2015 they changed the name of the studio to Pilates Connection. She attended Winchester Anglican Church.

Along with her husband she is survived by her children, Larry Nichols (Pam) of Luray, VA, Lynn Nichols Oliver (Jason) of Star Tannery, VA, Jesse P. Dowell (Jennifer) of Ft. Pierce, FL and Anna E. DiNello (Steve) of Stephens City; sisters, Joyce Barnes of Newport Beach, CA and Judi Bissell (Vern) of Beaverton, OR and eleven grandchildren from ages 8–28.

Lucille was preceded in death by her son Jason M. Dowell in 2009. Jason’s wife, Michelle and children live nearby.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Abundant Life Church, 700 Aylor Rd, Stephens City, VA 22655 (www.myabundantlife.com) with Pastor Patrick Ware officiating. A reception will follow in the gym with simple refreshments.
