Obituary for Frances Broxson Fowler

Frances Broxson Fowler, 92, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, March 23, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center.
She was born August 18, 1925 in Troy, Alabama, the daughter of John Alfred and Verna Spears Broxson. She earned her Bachelor degree from Auburn University. Frances married Raymond Lloyd Fowler January 28, 1945 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
She retired from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management as an Employee Development Specialist. Earlier in her career, she was an English teacher who instructed first sergeants at Fort Benjamin Harrison. She was active in Kappa Kappa Kappa (Tri-Kappa) in Pendleton, Indiana and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) during her time in Destin, Florida. She also did volunteer literacy tutoring and was active in her local church.
In retirement, Frances travelled the world, reaching all seven continents and sharing the journeys with her family. Recently, she mentioned her favorite trip was to Antarctica. Frances’s “crazy trips”, as she called them, included Nepal, Tanzania, Morocco, Bhutan, Burma, Australia, and Israel. Showing her family the world was a life gift she left.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond, sons, Steve Broxson Fowler (Louise) of Winchester and David Brock Fowler (Sarah) of Marshall, VA, and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Mary Fowler.
Mrs. Fowler is predeceased by a sister, Mildred Gillis and a brother, John Broxson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
