Obituary for Maxine Ruth Zinman

Maxine Ruth  Zinman
Maxine R. Zinman (Hillerson), 67, of Berryville, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018 at her home.
Maxine was born May 4, 1950 in Wilmington, DE; the daughter of Manuel M. Zinman and Esther S. Zinman. She graduated from P.S. DuPont High School. She was a graduate of American University and received her nursing degree from Shenandoah University. Maxine served as a Librarian for Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg from 1973-1974, and taught horticulture at Northern Virginia Community College. She was a nurse in Oncology and the Nursery at Winchester Medical Center from 1985-1995 and was the Outreach Coordinator for Winchester/Frederick County Health Department from 1996-2002. Maxine was a member of Beth El Congregation for over 40 years. She was a long time member of the American Begonia Society, and was National Judging Director for 25 years. She often judged at the Philadelphia Flower Show and was the first American to judge the British Begonia Championship in Scotland. She was a member of the Clarke County Library Board, and a coach with the Clarke County youth Soccer League. Maxine loved her gig as a Bass Drummer for the Winchester Pipe and Drum Corp.
She married Jay Hillerson on August 22, 1971.
Along with her husband, Jay, she is survived by her son Zach and his wife Coleen; two grandchildren, Adam and Carmen; and Maxine’s sister, Judy.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester with Rabbi Lisa Levine officiating. Burial will be in Wilmington, DE.
