Obituary for Richard Kershaw Young

Richard Kershaw  Young
Richard Kershaw Young, 87, of Berryville, died Friday, May 8, 2009 in Winchester Medical Center.

He was born September 6, 1921 in Winchester, Massachusetts; the son of Samuel Kershaw and Viola Evelyn Richardson Young. He attended the University of Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1983 as a software engineer with Lockheed Martin. He was a member of Stephens City United Methodist Church and the Patmos Masonic Lodge in Savage, MD. As a young man one of his favorite hobbies was amateur radio. Later in life his passion was computers.

He married Louise Watson Ryder on May 25, 1950 in Reading Massachusetts. Louise died July 26, 2003.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Young Stiles of Vienna, VA and Julie Young Rhodes of Upperville, VA; two sons, Scott Alden Young of Stephens City, VA and Christopher James Young of Elizabethton, TN; six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Young White.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Stephens City with Rev. J. Jeffrey Butcher officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Stephens City.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stiles, Danny Stiles, Scott Young, Ty Rhodes, Chris Young and Ben Rhodes.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12-1 p.m at the funeral home.
