Obituary for Lucy Brook Eshelman (McCloy)

Lucy Brook McCloy Eshelman, 99, of Hagerstown, MD, formerly of Winchester, VA, died peacefully at home Thursday March 2, 2017.

She was born on February 16, 1918, in Martinsburg, WV, the daughter of the late Katie Swimley McCloy, and Norman McCloy.

Lucy lived in Winchester, VA most of her life until 2005 when she moved to Hagerstown, MD to live with her family. She was a graduate of Berryville High School and worked for Leggetts Department Store for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church and a member of their Sunshine Club. She also served as Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family and friends along with working on puzzles, playing cards, and watching westerns and Family Feud on television.

She is survived by her daughter Martha and husband, Robert Harshman, of Hagerstown, two grandchildren, Jason Harshman of Hagerstown, and Melissa Silvers and husband Larry of Boca Raton, Florida, and one great granddaughter, Kellyann Silvers. She will also be greatly missed by her family member and puzzle buddy, Hilda Harshman of Hagerstown, family doggies Teek and Rocky and friends Karen May and June Conley.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in 2009 by her husband of 65 years, Samuel William “Bill” Eshelman, her infant son, aunt Aria Cochran and her beloved dogs Bamsie, Prince, and cat Frisky.

Graveside services will be officiated by Reverend John Sumpter and held Tuesday March 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, VA. There will be no public viewing.
