Obituary for Donald Franklin Elliott

Donald Franklin Elliott
Donald Franklin Elliott, 83, died peacefully on October 13 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Elliott was born in Winchester on June 29, 1933, the son of Cecil and Ruby Fishel Elliott. He was a 1953 graduate of Handley High School. He served in the Army as a cryptographer during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan.
On June 20, 1954, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Jackson at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mr. Elliott was Sales Manager for Terry Travel Trailers-Fleetwood Enterprises for many years. A successful salesman, he took great pride in mentoring and developing successful sales personnel. He also worked as a realtor and spent many later years as a driver for Car Quest where he reunited with many old friends and indulged his passion for automobiles.
Mr. Elliott enjoyed collecting duck decoys, clocks, and antique cars. He also amassed a wide variety of friends of all ages. He prided himself on getting to know “everyone’s story” and his kindness and interest were rewarded with loyal friends and devoted caretakers.
A lifelong resident of Winchester, he loved the city, its people, its architecture and its history.
He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Antique Automobile Club, and the Eagles Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, who died May 14, 2011 and his sister, Alice Elliott Ashley. He is the last member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon, and her husband Gary Hetland, who he loved as a son. He was the very proud grandfather of Christopher Elliott Hetland and Catherann Paige Hetland.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 11 AM at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 W. Boscawen Street. Pastors Martha Miller Sims and Jonathan Boynton will officiate. The family will receive friends at 10 AM at the church. A reception will follow the service in Eisenberg Hall.
Inhumation of ashes will be at the Old Church Wall of Grace Lutheran Church in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
