Obituary for David Rue "Dave" Ramsey

David Rue Ramsey passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Buena Vista, Virginia on January 7, 1928, the son of Sam and Gertie Ramsey.
He married Laverne Glass in Buena Vista on July 4, 1948. They were married for sixty-eight years until her passing in February of 2016.
David worked for the Lee Carpet Company in Glasgow, Virginia from the time he graduated from Fairfield High School until 1962, when he became a Game Warden for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
He and his family moved to Winchester in 1962, where he served as a Game Warden in Frederick County for the next 30 years, when he retired as a Sergeant. As a Game Warden he became well known in the area for his passion for his work as well as his support for agriculture and conservation.
He was a life member and past officer in the Winchester Chapter of the Izaak Walton League where he received several awards including Ike of the Year in 1995, Chapter Appreciation Award in 2006 and inclusion on the Honor Roll in 2007. He was named Wildlife Officer of the Year in 1982 and inducted in the Virginia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation Hall of Fame. He received the 10,000 Club Award for teaching Hunter Safety in Frederick and Clarke County schools in 1982 and received several honorary Chapter Farmer awards from the Future Farmers of America.
After his retirement he worked at Old Dominion Sports Center until his health started to fade.
David was a lifetime and devoted member of Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church having served in many different capacities to advance the church’s mission and the spiritual growth of its members.
In his spare time, David enjoyed hunting and fishing, helping his children and grandchildren with all types of projects, and reading The Holy Bible, mystery novels, and daily devotionals.
David leaves behind five children and seven grandchildren to cherish his memory. Gerald (Patty), Barry (Elaine), Steve (Susie), Shelby (Dwight), and Frances (Stuart), and seven grandchildren, Zachary, Jeremy, Amanda, Heather, Megan, Morgan and Ryan.
A funeral for David will be held at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church, 1025 Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester Virginia, with Pastor Davey Ermold officiating.
Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home Wednesday April 3, 2019 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Pallbearers will be David's grandchildren.
Interment will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park, 1270 Front Royal Pike in Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions be made to Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church, 1025 Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester, Virginia 22602.
