Obituary for Richard Lee "Dick" Adams
Richard Lee “Dick” Adams, 88, of Winchester, died Monday, December 3, 2018.
Mr. Adams was born March 9, 1930 in Stephens City, VA. The son of the town’s blacksmith, the late William C. Adams and Jessie Pifer Adams, he has lived and worked in the Shenandoah Valley all his life.
Dick’s love of longrifles began when he was a child. His collection started in 1949, when he inherited his father’s longrifle, made by William Fisher in 1830.
At the age of sixteen, Dick went to work for Ed Molden, until serving his country in Korea in 1952 and 1953. After returning to Winchester, he again worked for Mr. Molden, who welcomed him home with a new company truck in the hopes he would be returning to his old job. He did, and worked there for the next few years. In 1957, he began a new career with Raub Supply Company. In 1985, Dick retired after 28 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stephens City Lions Club, Kentucky Rifle Club and the Winchester Jaycees.
Mr. Adams is a genuine craftsman in his own right, as he has done numerous restorations of antique firearms and furniture. Another of his hobbies is reproducing authentic Shenandoah Valley pieces, reducing them to approximately one-fourth of their original size.
Dick married the love of his life, Eleanor “Ellie” Creamer on October 17, 1975. She passed in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his very close friend of 20 years, Joan Moler.
Dick was the last member of his biological family. He is survived by two stepsons, Rob Creamer (Lisa) of Winchester and Mitchell Creamer of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his nieces Bonnie Greene and husband, David, with whom he made his home for 14 years, Linda Brumback, Sue Boyce and husband Dick, and several other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone at Spring Arbor who were so wonderful to Dick and took such good care of him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Stephens City. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Stephens City with David Owings officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
