Obituary for Faye Joyce "Joyce" Edmonds (Hurd)

Joyce Hurd Edmonds, 81, of Berryville, VA., formerly of Mount Hope, W.VA., and Winchester, VA., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at her home

Born January 14, 1938, in Mount Hope, WV. Joyce was the daughter of the late Amos F. Hurd and Virgie Mae Gibson Hurd of Mount Hope.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Franklin Edmonds, April 1, 2015; her brother, Newton (Newt) Tandy Hurd Sr. on Jan. 2, 2019; sisters Agnes Hurd Akers, Lois Hurd Treadway, Kenova Hurd Dancy and Nevada Hurd Angle and brothers, Ralph Hurd, Elmo Hurd and Elgie Hurd.

Joyce worked for years at the Beckley Manufacturing Plant in Beckley and retired from Navy Federal Credit Union in Falls Church, VA.

Joyce attended the Berryville (VA) Presbyterian Church, was a friend of the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging and helped with Meals On Wheels for 10 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa D. Barber (Brian) of Berryville, VA, with whom she made her home with for the past several years, and Amy D. Hale (Ronnie) of Manassas, VA; one sister, the only surviving member of her immediate family, Versa Elva Hurd Painter of Pax, WV; six grandchildren, Jennifer Doyle, Michelle Mortensen (Dave), Brian Doyle, Brandon Phillips, Kyle Phillips and Matthew Barber; five great- grandchildren; and a host of very special nieces and nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Berryville Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Jonathan Bunker officiating. Burial will be private in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
