Lena Mae Godfrey Yates, 92, of Winchester, VA formerly of Front Royal, VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at a local nursing home facility.
Mrs. Yates was born on March 2, 1923 in Nokesville, VA; the daughter of the late Robert and Ginny Dodd Godfrey.
She married Alden Allen Yates on May 14, 1941 in Manassas, VA. He preceded her in death.
Lena is survived by her daughter, Linda Mae Yates of Winchester; grandchildren, Matthew Allen Parker and wife, Laurie of Charlotte, NC, Mark Adam Parker and wife, Holly, of Winchester and Michelle Glenne’ Shepherd of Winchester; great grandchildren, Jacob Parker, Glennae Tennett, Lena Parker and Aden Shepherd; sisters, Mary Ann McWhirt Fulford of Fredericksburg, VA and Joyce McWhirt Barber of Nokesville and brother, Michael Edgar Simms of Nokesville.
Sisters, Lorraine Heflin Craver and Rachel McWhirt Yankey preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 27, 2015 at Jones Funeral Home Winchester from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester with Pastor David Cunsolo and Pastor Kent Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
Pallbearers will be Dorman Groves, Michael Groves, Greg Elliott, Dwayne Mauck, Bobbie Reynolds and Frankie Knight.
