Obituary for Noah A Laws Sr.

Noah A Laws Sr.
Noah Alexander Laws, Sr., of Winchester, Virginia departed this life on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.

Noah was born February 10, 1945 in Winchester and raised in Boyce, Virginia, son to the late John H. and Bertha Laws. He was a lifetime member of John Mann United Methodist Church where he served as past Treasurer, past President of John Mann UMC Men’s and past President of John Mann UMC Usher Board. He was particularly proud of his Usher Board duties. He worked for Abex Corporation and retired from Potomac Edison Electric Company after 22 years of service. In 2010, Noah was inducted to the Edwin Barksdale (Douglas High School) Hunter Maddex Hall of Fame honoring outstanding athletes.

He was educated in Winchester, Virginia and graduated from Douglas High School class of 1964. He was an exceptional athlete in football and basketball sparking the attention of several colleges. Many could find him in his younger days behind Douglas School “out behind the school” or the Armory playing basketball. You could always see him at John Handley High School basketball games sitting on the visitor’s side at the top far right-hand corner. That was his spot! There was one thing you couldn’t tell him anything about, his Washington Redskins and the Wizards. He also had a great passion for fixing up cars and showing off his fleet of pristine automobiles!

Noah was a fun-loving individual, who lived life to the fullest. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and talk for hours. He had an infectious laugh, great sense of humor, strong personality, and unwavering love for his family. Most of all his faith and love of God.

Noah married Betty Porter on December 1, 2015 in Winchester, Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his wife Betty, six children: Noah a. Laws Jr. of Bowie, MD, Derrick E. Laws (Denise) of Havre de Grace, MD, Paula Puller (Kim) of Inwood, WV, Laricka Polston (Shawn) of Winchester, VA, Cynthia Doleman of Hagerstown, MD, Curtis Porter Sr. (Sheryl) of Centreville, VA, Tavis Laws of whom he raised of Harpers Ferry, WV, a sister in law, Kay Johnson and daughter Pamela Caple, both of Baltimore, MD, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene M. Johnson and John H. Laws Jr.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church on 527 Van Fossen Street in Winchester, VA., with Pastor Barbara Cousar officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21, 2019 one hour before the service.

Interment will be at Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, VA.
