Willard E.  Slonaker


Willard Eugene Slonaker, 90, of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at Amerisist Assisted Living.

Mr. Slonaker was born November 2, 1926, in Hampshire County, WV, the son of the late Kermit Albert and Viola Katherine Slonaker. Willard left High School in the 11th grade at age 16 to join the Navy during WWII. After serving in the Pacific Theater he returned home to earn his diploma from Stephens City High School, class of 1947. He married Ann Dorsey on May 8, 1953 in Winchester.

Willard retired after 32 years from Henkel-Harris Furniture Company as a Production Scheduler. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, past President Greenwood Fire Company, past President Shenandoah Traffic Club and past President Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Red Cross Mega Donor Club, giving over 33 gallons of blood.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann; his one son, Scott Slonaker of Arlington, VA; three daughters, Robin Painter (Paul) of Stephens City, Gena Zydelis (Billy) of Middletown and Sherri Simpson (Rick) of Winchester; one brother, Kermit A. Slonaker, Jr. of Winchester; one sister, Juanita Tobin of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Jaime Settle, Brad Settle, Melissa Sims, Dylan Zydelis and Mary Zydelis; and three great grandchildren, Ty Sims, Abigail Settle and Adeline Settle..

He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Megan Zydelis and Michael Painter.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester with Rev. Kristin Whiteside officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
