Andrew H.  Thornton
Andrew Harmon Thornton, 95, of Chambersburg, PA, formerly of Winchester, VA died peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Nursing Center at Penn Hall in Chambersburg.

Andrew was born in Becker, MS; the son of Woodie A. and Estelle Harmon Thornton. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He served actively during WWII as a Lt. Col with U S Army and with the reserve from 1946-1979. He was the Director of Education and Rehabilitation with the Veterans Administration in Washington D. C. until his retirement in 1979.

Andrew was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was active in the Men’s Bible Class and taught Sunday School. He volunteered and served as President of CCAP and was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

He married Mary Evans on February 27, 1943 in Amory MS.

Along with his wife, Mary, of Chambersburg, he is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Prock and husband, Dan, of Stephens City, VA, Camille Thornton of Stephens City, Rachel Meyers and husband, Mitch, of Warrenton, VA and Emily Crouch and husband, Perry, of Virginia Beach, VA; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

A sister, Ruth Hilliard, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the chapel at Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Bob Keener officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
