Obituary for Charles Robert "Charlie" Cooper
Charles R. Cooper, 87, of Winchester, died Friday, March 2, 2018.
Charlie was born November 26, 1930 in Gore; the son of the late John C. Cooper and Lelia Brill Cooper. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the Battleship Wisconsin. He retired from FEMA and worked as a funeral service assistant at Jones Funeral Home after retirement. He was a member of Round Hill United Methodist Church.
He married Ruby Brelsford on June 12, 1965 in Paw Paw, WV. Mrs. Cooper preceded him in death on November 15, 1994.
He is survived by his children, Steven R. Cooper of Winchester and Teresa A. Messina and her husband Paul of Winchester; two grandchildren, Sophia Grace Messina and Nicholas Paul Messina; a sister, Wilda Clem of Strasburg; two brothers, John C. Cooper, Jr. of Romney, WV and Berlin L. Cooper of Toms Brook, VA. He was preceded in death by his twin brother and two sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 12-1 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Ellinger and Doug Rinker officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Church Cemetery.
