Obituary for James D Bailey

James Douglas Bailey
Feb. 17, 1922 – February 4, 2017
On Saturday Feb. 4th, James “Doug” Bailey passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Winchester, VA Feb. 17, 1922 to Earl S. Bailey Sr. and Fern Luttrell Bailey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Lois Geraldine Fogle and siblings Evelyn Bailey Staples, Dorothy Bailey Keckley, Virginia Bailey Solenberger, and Earl S. Bailey Jr. He is survived by his two daughters Gloria Jean McKinley and Debra Bailey Ray, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Betty Bailey Nichols and brother William “Bill” Bailey.
He graduated Handley High School in 1941. He was a WWII US Army veteran earning the Bronze Star during his service in the D-Day invasion. He was a super late model racing track champion in 1968 at the Hagerstown Speedway and was also a champion at Winchester Speedway. He worked as a mechanic most of his life and was retired from the City of Winchester.
Graveside Military Honors service will be held on February 8, 2017 at 1 PM in Mount Hebron Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey W. Dillon officiating.
