Obituary for Joanne Armstrong-Jones

JoAnne “Jody” Armstrong-Jones, 90, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 in Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
She was born on November 2, 1928 in Washington, D. C.; the daughter of Frank Armstrong, Jr. and Margaret Tweltridge Armstrong.
She was first married to Virgil R. Strader, Jr. and then to Donald W. Jones. Both preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Handley High School, received an Associates degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a major in English and a minor in Theatre.
Through the years Jody was a board member of Kids Are Our Concern, The American Red Cross (Winchester Frederick County Chapter), Winchester Little Theatre, Inc., The United Way and Belle Grove. She was a member of Preservation of Historic Winchester, The Little Garden Club, the Junior Century Club and The Century Club. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church where she was Chair of the Altar Guild from 1969-1970 and was active with the Treasure Box Thrift Shop.
Jody was accomplished, had a vibrancy for life and was truly the consummate “Lady”. She loved and supported the arts, was well traveled and had a talent for interior decorating and fashion. She also had a heart for service and was very involved in her community.
She is survived by her children, Margaret “Meg” S. Papke (Wade) of Richmond, VA, Jody S. Wall (Dan) of Winchester, Amy S. Braithwaite of Winchester and John A Strader (Beth) of Glen Allen, VA; brothers, Frank Armstrong, III and William T. Armstrong both of Winchester, sister, Gretchen A Redmond of Winchester and five grandchildren, Rhett Braithwaite, Jr., Drew Braithwaite, Katlyn Wall, Jack Strader and Meredith Strader.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. in Mt. Hebron Cemetery on Friday , December 7, 2018 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. Webster Gibson officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Strader, Wade Papke, Dan Wall, Rhett Braithwaite, Jr., Drew Braithwaite and Jack Strader.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Westminster Canterbury and Christ Episcopal Church Alter Guild.
