Obituary for Theresa Lynne Sales (Lillis)

If you are reading this then I have lost my life to ALS. It is a horrible disease for which there is no cure. I would like to say I was courageous, but the truth is I cried – I cried a lot. I know everyone is going to die but when you know you have a disease that is killing you, it is very hard on you and your family.

I was born March 3rd, 1968 in Winchester, VA. My wonderful parents are Eddie and Joan Lillis. I have one brother Eddie Lillis and his wife Brandy. I also have a sister named Debbie Murray and her husband Bobby. I do want everyone to know I definitely was the favorite child. I was blessed with three beautiful children Aaron Lillis, Amber Skipper and her fiancé Chris Kerns. [see Chris- I remembered] and Jerri-lynne Sales. The love of my life, my granddaughter Jayla Skipper.

I attended John Handley High School way back in the day and continued my education at the school of hard knocks. In 1992 I met and later married Jerry Sales – the love of my life. Which also made Connie Sales my mother-in-law. I had the absolute best father-in-law, Ray Sales, who passed in 2004 from the same disease I have. I know you are not supposed to like your mother-in-law but I really liked mine. Jerry and I worked hard, raised our children and have a few businesses. I can honestly say I had a good life. It was just shortened by my disease – ALS. I am so grateful for my family and friends who have helped me during my illness.

I have a beautiful older sister, Debbie Murray, who has been by my side from the very beginning with me to all of my many doctor appointments and my many procedures and tests. I have often wondered why she chose to not have children. God knew she would be needed to take my place and be a second “MOM” to my three children and “MAWMAW” to my precious granddaughter. She loves them and will tell them what they need to hear not what they want to hear.

Please slow down and take the time to spend with your family and friends. Do not worry about having so many “things”. Run and twirl in the rain and jump in the puddles.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the ALS Association. Please reference the donation to my name. Remember my family gets a list of who donates.
