Obituary for Deborah Jean Bailey

Deborah Jean Bailey
Deborah Jean Bailey,62, of Winchester, VA, lost her brief battle with pancreatic cancer on July 23 at her home. Deborah was born September 9, 1955 to Elsie May Louthan Bailey and Tevious Bailey of Winchester, VA. She attended Winchester Public Schools and graduated from John Handley High School in 1973. She then attended Longwood College where she majored in Biology, and was a member of the National Biology Honor Society.

Debbie's biology background nurtured and enhanced her lifelong love of animals in need. She was an active member of Alpha Phi Sorority, where she was known and appreciated for both her joy of life and her strong sense of humor and practical jokes. At Longwood, Debbie made friendships that endured throughout her life. To her family, she was a mighty righteous force in a petite and feisty package. Her greatest gift was her service to and empathy for others. Debbie graduated magna cum laude in 1977 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. She was employed most of her career as a science teacher by Frederick County Public Schools and Handley High School.

Deborah was active in Audubon, Winchester Choral Arts Society, and her church, Centenary Reformed United Church of Christ. She was involved in photography of nature and beautiful things as well as animal causes, and in 2001 enjoyed her first safari to Kenya in Africa, and later, to Tanzania, which were highlights in her life. She appreciated all of the beautiful things this world gave her and reciprocated with her own love and beauty.

Debbie is survived by her mother; her sister, Joette Bailey; her spouse, Michael Lineburg; her sister-in-law, Sharon Loudenslager; her aunt and uncle, Patty Bailey Grove and Bob Grove; and the following cousins; Kim Grove Ball, Kerry Grove, Rob Grove, Leslie Louthan and Jim Louthan as well as her 11 beloved cats. She was predeceased by her father, Tevious; her uncle, Bill Louthan; and her cousin, Tom Louthan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27 at 1:00 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. for two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. Pallbearers will be Rick Tillman, Brian Ross, Brandon Ludwig, Bob Grove, Scott Ball and Jim Robinson.

Donations in Debbie's memory may be sent to Centenary Reformed U.C.C. Church at 204 South Cameron St., Winchester,VA.
