Obituary for Darel Melvin Kump

Darel Melvin Kump, passed away peacefully at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
Mr. Kump was born February 2, 1942 in High View, WV; the son of the late Melvin I. and Vivian F. Kump. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church in Gore, VA. Darel was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving for 4 years during the Vietnam Era as a Radio Operator aboard the USS Forrestal.
He lived and worked in Maryland for many years and retired from Bendix/Honeywell.
He made his home in Shawnee Land in Frederick County near Winchester. Darel was a member of the American Legion of Capon Bridge, WV, Department of Veterans Affairs and AARP.
Darel was a good man, loved by many. He enjoyed cooking (especially barbecue chicken wings), watching old westerns, shooting pool, NASCAR racing, and raced his own car, #66, in Maryland when he was younger.
He is survived by a daughter, Heather D. Kump of WV; two sons, David S. Kump of WV and Richard D. Kump of Maryland; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Carol F. Shaffer of Edinburg, VA, and Joann J. Foltz and her husband, Bradley of Hayfield, VA; a brother, Daniel D. Kump of Gore, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; and a long time Navy friend, Vic Marquardt of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robin L. Kump.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darryl George and Chaplain Steve Buechling officiating.
