Obituary for Robert Edgar Smith

Robert E. Smith, 68, of Winchester, VA, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center.
Bob was born August 3, 1949 in Los Angeles, California. Bob was the only son to Dolores Ann and Clarence Harry Smith. Bob graduated from Bell Gardens High School in Bell Gardens, CA in 1967. Bob went on to attend El Camino College and Long Beach College, both in California.
Bob was a United States Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam during 1969-1970. He was trained as radar communications personnel which later lead to a career at Hughes Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, and finally Vencore, Inc. of Chantilly, VA. Bob worked for Lockheed Martin for 31 years, until they divested and sold his group to become Vencore.
Bob was married to Mary Ann (Noble) Smith of Mitchell, South Dakota for 46 years. They met and married in 1971 and have two sons, Shane Robert Smith of Winchester, VA and Eric Donald Smith of Longmont, Colorado. Bob loved all four of his grandchildren; Shannon, Kristian, Emma and Catherine. Bob is survived by not only his wife, Mary Ann, and two sons, but by two daughters- in-law, Kristi and Christina, four grandchildren, four brothers-in-law; Bill, Darrel, Don and Floyd and their spouses. Not having siblings of his own, he became “one of five”. He is survived by one aunt, Ethel Robertson.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Clarence, two aunts, Mona and Margaret, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emma and Donald Noble.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have donations be made in honor of Bob and his service to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund of Arlington, VA at 1235 South Clark Street, Suite 910, Arlington, VA 22202 or visit their website at VVMF.org.
Bob will be forever missed by all who loved him. This includes family, friends, former and current co-workers.
