Obituary for Cody James Monday

Cody James Monday, 21, of Stephens City, VA, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home.

Cody was born September 22, 1996 in Fort Irwin, CA, the son of Cody D. Monday and Jennifer L. McHale-Thaxton. He graduated from Sherando High School in 2015 and later worked in the maintenance department at the Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, VA. Cody had a spirit for living that was second to none. He was known for his strength of character, faith in God, love of country, and for a love of adventure in all that he did. Cody was extremely devoted to his friends and family; they were always at the forefront of his mind. In situations which would normally be considered boring and mundane, Cody’s tenacity for fun would have found a way to take the moment, reshape it, and turn it into a hysterically memorable event that would be told and retold countless times whenever friends and family gathered. His friends and family can attest that this was almost always the direct result of his infectious laugh. Cody was also known for his affinity of classic cars and trucks. During the times when he was not with his friends and family, Cody could always be found, hard at work, under the hood of one of his older Ford vehicles as he endeavored to get just a little more horsepower out of them. Cody was further extremely proud that he played on the Sherando High School Varsity football team and embodied the “Warrior spirit.” Most of all, Cody was humbled and thankful for all of the love and support he received during his illness from his family, friends, and the Warrior community.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Justin B. Monday; a sister, Bristol Thaxton, all of Stephens City; his paternal grandparents, Arthur B. and Mary G. Monday of Flagstaff, AZ, his maternal grandfather, James McHale, of Locust Gap, PA; his maternal grandmother, Lynn Wisneski, of Mount Carmel, PA; a paternal uncle, Beale B. Monday and wife, Heidi, of Flagstaff; a maternal uncle, James Kealy, of Milwaukee, WI; and a maternal aunt, Dana Klokis and husband, Justin, of Mt Carmel; and his foster sisters Michelle Powers and Lauren Frisbie.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church in
Stephens City with Rev. Mike Q. Mayton officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ry McWhorter, Josh Ojo, Steven Pont, Conner Watson, Jacob Bell, Ryan Lambert, Tim Coleman, and Justin Monday.
