John (Skip) Hamilton Barrett, age 69, passed away peacefully at Blue Ridge Hospice on Monday, August 21, 2017 in Winchester, VA surrounded by family and friends.
Skip was born November 26, 1947 in Washington, D.C. to Edward Jerome Barrett and Goldie Mae Barrett. He was a 1967 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia and a Navy veteran serving with honor on the USS Neosho.
He retired from Safeway Inc. after 31 years of service and subsequently from Kohls Distribution Center. Skip was a loving family man who enjoyed coaching softball or watching his many “adopted” children play sports. He was passionate about Duke basketball, Yankees baseball and his faith in Jesus Christ. Skip attended New Hope Bible Church in Front Royal and the Life Church in Winchester where he spent many hours in service and fellowship. He was loved by all who met him and wanted everyone to remember that he is now in heaven with the Lord with a desire for all to join him.
Skip is survived by his wife, Sandra Barrett of Winchester VA; his four children, Michelle Harman (Robert), John Barrett (Amy), Krystal Barrett (Ed), and Robin Hoover (Matthew); seven grandchildren, Ashley Tyson, Robert (RJ) Harman, Alexis Reed, Aubriana Barrett, Ethan Katona, Maci Hoover, and Greyson John Hoover; one great-grandchild, Owen Tyson; three siblings, Michael Barrett (Jenny), Joan Taylor, and Robert Barrett; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edward Barrett, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Bible Church, 80 N. Lake Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630, with a gathering following service. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at https://alzfdn.org/
