Kenneth G. Ashby, 73, of Winchester, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at his home with his wife.
Mr. Ashby was born May 29, 1944 in Winchester; the son of Kenneth B. Ashby and Lelie Martin Ashby. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as a machinist with Crown, Cork and Seal. He was a driver with Advance Auto and owned and operated Mel-Max Restaurant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21, Eagles Aerie 824 and VFW Post 2123. He was an avid hunter and loved sports.
He is survived by his wife Judy Marie Ashby of Winchester; three sons, Ken White of Iowa, Scott Newlin and his wife Barbara of Martinsburg, WV, and Mike Newlin and his fiancé, Jamie Spence of Winchester; two daughters, Stacey Vanorsdale of West Virginia and Cristy “Emy” Newlin of Winchester; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Stephens City. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 2123.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick County Esther Boyd Animal Shelter, 161 Fort Collier Rd., Winchester, VA 22603.
