Obituary for James Floyd "Jim" Bennett

James Floyd Bennett, “Jim”, 68, of Winchester, VA passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home.

Jim was born July 8, 1948 in Newark, NY; the son of the late Eldon and Gladys Heidenreich Bennett. He graduated with the class of 1966 from Newark High School. Jim then went on to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology and then furthered his education at Averitt University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He worked at Rubbermaid in Winchester for years as a supervisor. As a young man he participated in the Drum and Bugle Corps and he was a Boy Scout leader for several years. He was a member of the Round Hill Ruritan and the STAR Touring and Riding Chapter #260. He was an excellent wood craftsman and a model railroad enthusiast. Jim was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He married Margaret Anne Gorall on April 1, 1967 in Palmyra, NY.

Along with his wife he is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Woleslagle of Woodbridge, VA; son James “Richard” Bennett of Minneapolis, MN; six granddaughters, Abby Pettitt, Courtney Pettitt, Alexandra Bennett, Teralynn Bennett, Samantha Beaulieu and Zoe Woleslagle; a great grandson, Kayden and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Carol Ann Bennett Quackenbush.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 230 Justes Drive, Winchester, VA 22602.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Knecht officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Palmyra, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jim, to the Shenandoah Area Council Boy Scouts of America, 107 Youth Development Court, Winchester, VA 22602.
