Obituary for Abraham "Bram" Bekooy

Abraham Bekooy, age 60, of Winchester, Virginia, previously The Netherlands, passed away on March 7, 2017 at his home. He retired from the European Space Agency after 35 years of service. He was a Logistics Engineer of Human Spaceflight Exploration Operations in conjunction with NASA. He received numerous awards from ESA for his work on Skylab, Columbus, GEOS Satellite and the International Space Station, also a prestigious Honoree Award recipient from NASA. He was fluent in Dutch, English, German, French and Italian. He was also a member of the renowned K&G Band from Leiden, The Netherlands, where he was an accomplished musician on many instruments.

Bram enjoyed traveling with his wife and had visited over 22 countries throughout the world. He also enjoyed riding his John Deere, cooking, playing squash, golf, soccer, and driving his Porsche on the Autobahn in Germany.

Mr. Bekooy was preceded in death by his mother, Cor; father, Bram Bekooy; and brother, Thijs Sloos. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara J. Bekooy of Winchester, Virginia; his two daughters, Miranda Bekooy and Bianca Boone Bekooy of the Netherlands; sister, Linde Bekooy of the Netherlands; stepdaughter, Jennifer Danowsky of Virginia; 3 grandchildren, Jada, Ivy and Benjamin; and also Carol Cope, Doug, Barbara and Steven Horrocks.

There will be memorial Service held at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia on Friday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m.
