Obituary for Shirley Conner Shumaker

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, Shirley Conner Shumaker went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on July 30, 1936; the daughter of Robert and Margery Conner. She was attended James Wood High School.
She married her love, Melvin E. Shumaker, on February 16, 1957 in Williamsport, MD. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2006.
Shirley was a homemaker raising her four children. She volunteered at Shawnee Fire Hall, American Diabetes, American Heart Association and the Girl Scouts of America. She was an active member of Salem Church of the Brethren and loved her church family.
She was a simple but classy lady who never met a stranger. She enjoyed the Fraternal Order of Eagles #824 fellowship “with the girls”. She loved to visit with family and friends and led her life through her faith daily.
Surviving her are daughters, Melody Shumaker and Margery Shumaker both of Winchester, VA; son, Mitchell Shumaker and wife, Debbie, of Clearbrook, VA; grandchildren, Cody Shumaker and girlfriend, Lexi, Jacob Shumaker and Jessica Thomas and husband, Ryan; great grandchildren, Quenton, Ridley, Lucas Thomas and expecting Jackson Lee Shumaker; brother, Harold “Bussy” Conner; sisters, Helen Funkhouser, Mary “Dickie” McKay and Nancy Henry and husband, Leon and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was known to many as “Momma Shirley” and leaves behind special children, Buddy Allen, Tanya and her children, Rosa Linda and Scarlett Hernandez.
Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael M. Shumaker; brothers, Robert Conner and Clarence Conner and sister, Louise Shade.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 26, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Looman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Conner, Jerry McKay, Larry McKay, Ronnie Paul, James “Buddy” Allen and Max Hausenfluck.
Honorary pallbearers will be Russy Conner and Mike Miles.
