Obituary for Peter Glendon "Pete" Mowitt

Peter Glendon Mowitt, 85, of Winchester, VA died Thursday, January 19th, of natural causes peacefully in his sleep. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Glendon Mowitt, and Ruby McCracken. He was preceded in death by his late brother John Mowitt. Mr. Mowitt retired from the US Department of the Interior. He was greatly involved in his community, serving as the General Registrar for Frederick County between 1987 and 1994. He served on the Board of Directors for the Shelter for Abused Women from 1986-1989, and was President of their board from 1988-1989. He served as Treasury of the Board of Directors for the Coalition for Racial Unity, and took an active interest in the Shenandoah Discovery Museum. He was a member of Daniel Morgan Riflemen. A member of the NSSA for more than 50 years, he will be missed by fellow members of the Washington Blue Rifles. He is survived by his daughter, Linda k. Postle , of Brunswick, MD, his son Glendon J. Mowitt of Reston, VA , his daughter Leslie E. Mowitt, of Clyde, NC and his son William P. Mowitt of Tacoma Park, MD. A memorial service will be held in Winchester at Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 25th at 3:00 PM. Donations to his charities may be made in lieu of flowers.
