Obituary for Lois Jones Toombs

Lois “Loie” Toombs passed away December 31, 2016 in Winchester, Virginia.
Lois was born on June 29, 1930, daughter of the late Leon and Mary Weyneth Jones. She attended school in Seneca Castle and West Lake Road, Geneva, NY graduating from Geneva High School in 1948. She married Frederick Toombs on June 1, 1951 and continued to make her home in Seneca Castle, NY.
Early in her career, she was a dental assistant in the office of J.B. Dixon DDS of Geneva, NY. Family, church and community were always a priority for Loie. She always enjoyed spending summers with her family at their Seneca Lake Cottage in South Kashong, Geneva, NY. Loie was an active member of the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church, being a Sunday school teacher, chairwoman for many church dinners, member of numerous church committees, and chorus member for the production of the Kastle Kapers variety show held at the Grange Hall during the 1960s. She was a member of the Seneca Castle Fire Department Auxiliary, an active member of the Home Demonstration group in Seneca Castle, and a member of the Town of Seneca Bicentennial Celebration committee.
She also shared her love for the youth in the community by being both a 4-H and Girl Scout leader. Loie was secretary for Castle Construction of twenty years and upon her retirement, she volunteered in the second grade classroom of Linda Upchurch at Midlakes Primary School for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Frederick W. Toombs, and her brothers, Lawrence and Charles Jones.
She is survived by her daughters Janet (Bradley) Dutcher of Geneva, NY and Margene “Midge” (Timothy) Youmans of Winchester, VA, her granddaughters, Marcy Dutcher of Elk Grove, CA, Amy Youmans and Abigail Youmans of Winchester, VA, her grandsons Joshua Dutcher of Geneva, NY, Aaron Youmans of Troy, NY and great grandson Ebyn Madison of Elk Grove, CA.
A memorial service will be held in July 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2078 Buffalo Street, Stanley, NY 14561
