Obituary for Jerry Leon "J.L." Scarlett

Jerry Leon “JL” Scarlett left for greener pastures on December 10th , 2016. JL was born and raised in Oklahoma and settled in Middletown, VA with his family in the late 70’s. Mr. Scarlett served 20 years in the US Navy, spending time on the USS Oxford, USS Shark and was stationed in Germany, Maryland, Alaska, Japan and Okinawa. After retiring from the Navy JL pursued his love of horses and became an accomplished farrier. His clients will remember him for his drive to learn and improve, his prompt time and attention, and his many colorful stories.
He was a devoted husband to Barbara for 52 years, father to Sam, Jenny and John, grandfather to Zachary and Varun, and reliable lap to his faithful companion, Juno. Although he had only a 9th grade education, JL was an avid reader, artist and craftsman—expressing his Indian heritage and love of Western history in his paintings and spending time at the forge blacksmithing.
