Dorothy Ruth Carriker, 81, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away in her sleep at her home on Monday morning, October 17, 2016. She has joined her husband and soul mate of 62 plus years, “Casey” Carriker, who preceded her in death just last year. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Carriker, her husband, Dean See, both of Liberty, Missouri and her grandson, David See of Macon, Missouri. A brother, Roy Lester Chase of Florida preceded her in death, and another brother, Norman Chase, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri survives.

Dorothy was born in 1934 in Kingston, Missouri. After her family traveled between Missouri and Kansas, Dorothy graduated from El Dorado Springs High School as a Valedictorian. She married her high school sweetheart, and the pair spent their life together traveling the globe. When she wasn’t “vacationing”, Dorothy worked various clerical positions, retiring from Atlas Pacific Engineering located in Winchester, Virginia, in 1997.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was actively involved in several community organizations. In Missouri, she held leadership positions in Camp Fire Girls, Inc., Raytown Archaeological Society, Raytown Historical Society, and PTA. After settling in Virginia, Dorothy volunteered in various capacities at Wayside Theatre, until its closing, and she served as a crisis line volunteer for over five years with Concern Hotline. In addition, Dorothy has been a supporter of other local and national wildlife, conservation, animal rights, historic, disabled veteran and Native American service charities.

Her wish was to be cremated; so, no local services will be conducted. Her ashes will be joined with those of her beloved husband and returned to her home in the State of Missouri. The family request that in lieu of plants and flowers donations be sent in the memory of Dorothy Carriker to either Blue Ridge Hospice, Korean War Veteran’s Association of Winchester, or the Frederick County SPCA to assist in the care and adoption of their family companion, Simba.
