Carolyn Hawes “Lynn” Young, 87, of Winchester, VA passed away at her home in Westminster Canterbury on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

She was born on August 10, 1928 in Fall River, MA; the daughter of Philip Tripp Hawes, Sr. and Marion Makepeace Hawes. She was a graduate of Vermont Junior College.

Lynn married Frederick Rasche Young on July 12, 1952 in Tiverton, RI. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.

She was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Mobile, the Hospital Gift Shop and the Treasure Box. She was an advisor to the Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, served on the Governor’s Council for Handicap Awareness in Virginia and was a contributing writer for the Westbury World. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Preservation of Historic Winchester and a member of numerous bridge clubs.

Lynn and her husband, Fred, in later years would split their time between Key Largo, FL and their home here at Westminster Canterbury.

Surviving her are her children; Betsy Young Lewis and Perry, Rick Young and Jan, and Pete Young and Judy; grandchildren, Carly and Tripp Lewis, Cary and Alex Young and special neighbor “grandchildren”, Emilie, Sarah and Elisabeth Rudy.

A brother, Philip T. Hawes, Jr. preceded her in death.

The family wishes to express many thanks to all the caregivers at Westminster Canterbury especially Dogwood Court nursing staff.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Westminster Canterbury Abbey.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made In Memory of Lynn Young to the SVWC Fellowship Fund or the SVWC Employee Fund, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, VA 22603.
