Condolence: I probably only saw Mrs. Stewart a dozen or so times in my life. I only knew her as Mrs. Stewart or Dorothy. I didn't know about "Dottie" until reading the obituary. Who we are is spread to those around us, so while I didn't have a lot of contact with her directly, I knew her through her daughter Nancy, someone who has enriched my life immeasurably. So while I want to offer my sympathies to the Stewart family and feel sad at this loss, I am filled with a great sense of gratitude. Gratitude for what she gave to her family and those she came in contact with. Gratitude for inspiring her daughter to become a nurse, which allowed Nancy to be there when her family needed the organization and clinical expertise that comes with being a nurse. Gratitude for the human example she set as a spouse for Ritchie and as mother and grandmother for her offspring and their offspring. Gratitude for the phone conversations she had with her daughter, and so much more. For me, gratitude is the legacy of Dorothy Stewart. And, speaking bluntly, it's a dang good legacy to have (the funeral home filter won't let me say the word beginning with "d" that I wanted to say).

Condolence: Dear Richie and Family,
Our deepest sympathy and our prayers are with you at this difficult time. We will miss Dottie in so many ways including her beautiful smile, her quiet generous nature, her wit, and the amazing works of art that she created. Dottie was the anchor of our Flying Fingers of Orchard Ridge needlework group. It was always a better day when Dottie was in her chair; we will always picture her there. We will have permanent memories with the pages of pictures of her work in our scrap book, and her spirit will always be with us. Richie, may you and the family hold close the love that our Orchard Ridge extended family felt for Dottie.

Condolence: Dear Stewart family,

Thinking of you in your time of sorrow and wishing we had a way to comfort you. Dottie was a wonderful lady that we will fondly remember. I picture her on the porch of your lake home swinging on her swing while sewing. She always had a friendly smile for us as we past in front of your home. We will miss her. Thinking of all of you with love.

Condolence: Dear Ritchie and family,
What a great loss for you all as well as the many of us at OR who loved her. It was a treat and our pleasure to meet Dottie and you, Ritchie back in 2012??---at one of those meetings--before a shovel was turned for our Village. Dottie was a very talented, creative, and sweet woman. We thank God of the privilege of knowing her---and you, too, Ritchie.
