John Stephen Lewandowski, 69, of Winchester, VA died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

John was born January 23, 1948 in Conshohocken, PA to the late John and Mary Nitz Lewandowski. John served his country for 22 years in the US Airforce and Army. He worked at the VA Hospitals in WV and PA as a Respiratory Therapist. John was the Founder and President of the Committee of Disabled Veterans on Housing, an organization that he felt very strongly about. He was always looking for ways he could help other Veterans in need. He organized several events to help honor Veterans. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

He married Katherine Powell, January 15, 1993 in Lebanon, PA. She preceded him in death March 19, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia Louise Garcia-Torres of Martinsburg, WV; and two step children, Teresa Walther (Robert) and Jeffrey Lam (Lorrie) both of Winchester; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph John Lewandowski of Norristown, PA and sister, Dolores Jean Lewandowski of Conshohocken.

He is preceded in death by his sister Marianne Binger.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Bjorn Lundberg officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
