Lillian Ratté Ostrander was born on July 6, 1916 in Lawrence, MA to Eva and Auguste Ratté. Lillian taught Kindergarten for 25 years for the Wallkill Central School District at the Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School in Wallkill, New York. After retirement, she continued to be a teacher in her heart and soul, as well as a lifelong learner, enjoying reading, yoga, walking and bird watching.

Lillian is predeceased by her husband Clare and brothers Marc and Robert. She is survived by her sister Beatrice, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Phyllis, two daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Douglas Koch and Linda and Rick Washco and four grandchildren; Rebecca Koch and her husband Justin Pfeiffer, Robert Koch, Robin Washco and Kristin Washco; and one great grandson, Raymond Pfeiffer. Lillian’s Winchester family included her beloved caregiver Dorothy LaFollette and dear friends Maybell and Ewen Campbell and their children. Lillian’s family is appreciative of those who loved and cared for her, especially the staff and families at Spring Arbor of Winchester who treated her with kindness and compassion.

Lillian’s family will hold a private service this spring in New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601 or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, www.birds.cornell.edu.
